About the Campaign

WHAT CAN I DO? CAMPAIGN is a grass roots movement that will raise awareness and compassion about homelessness through art and social action. Every month a unique and beautiful piece of art inspired by homelessness will be featured in our campaign. The artwork allows our audience permission with the artist to look, to meditate, to begin to ask questions about homelessness, and ultimately to start an open dialogue where everyone’s views are valid, accepted and informed. The campaign wants its viewers to ask WHAT CAN I DO? so that we may provide our audience with countless answers to and opportunities for this very question.

Our movement begins by building awareness through ads in several local magazines and throughout the online community within Los Angeles: the homeless capital of America. As our network grows, the work will expand outwards to address homelessness with a National Call To Action.

DISTINCTIVE ARTISTS will be featured in each issue of our monthly campaign. The strength of a single, artistic image puts a face on homelessness while inspiring deepened compassion and awareness towards homeless individuals. We plan to work with artists in different mediums and at different stages in their careers.  We will also incorporate work by artists within the homeless community.

A NUMBER OF LOCAL HOMELESS ORGANIZATIONS have partnered with our campaign. Each monthly piece features a different homeless organization, providing our audience with direct access to ways of affecting lasting change within their community. On this website and through our Facebook wall and Twitter feed we will provide readers with a weekly ‘Call To Action’, generated by our organization of the month. Our ‘Call to Action’ targets the specific needs of the organization while promoting individual activism, awareness and compassion within the community. We believe everyone wants to help make a difference and the campaign caters to EVERYONE. Our belief is that everyone has something unique and equally important to offer and collectively as we work together we can be part of the solution to ending homelessness and helping those less fortunate and in need.

We are looking for new talented artists with unique voices and visions to share their work on homelessness and are eager to promote wonderful homeless organizations, working hard to make a difference in our community. AS OUR CAMPAIGN EVOLVES, WE EXPAND with plans to launch both a PSA and viral media campaign that will feature original music, video content, artwork, clothing and more, all with the same intention of raising compassion, awareness and activism within the community. While LA remains a key city in the fight to end homelessness, we hope to bring individuals from other cities to the discussion. We also plan to host local events and art shows, celebrating the artists who donate their efforts to our campaign and honoring and donating to organizations that help those in need. Our monthly, one-page installments serve as vessels, carrying unique and personal artistic perspectives on a complex issue too often ignored. The images ease our audience into the world of homelessness, giving them free, safe and artistic access to look closer and find a way to help.
